"And if Christ says one word, kill him !"

The Federal government is training "clergy response teams" to "quell dissent" in the event of a declaration of martial law. Read the AlterNet article and watch the accompanying video here.

This is kinda neat, in a way. It shows that the government recognizes the importance of our religious leaders and their traditional role of calming the flocks on the way to the slaughterhouse.

However, I admit to some trepidation when I remember that the clergy has also been enlisted to help the Feds with a program called "Fugitive Safe Surrender", described in my exceptionally insightful post from 2/25/07, Theocracy on the March.

They're working the takeover from a lot of different directions at once, and it makes it hard to focus on on it because their are so many different aspects, but that doesn't make it any less real, only more dangerous.

How long before these "men of God" are armed?

Not long. Blackwater and its leadership are on a mission from god. See the articles by Chris Hedges and Paul J. Nyden if you haven't already.

oldfolio--thanks for the comment and the links. Hedges is a personal hero, but I was not familiar with Nyden.
I'm well up on on the serious threat to our democracy posed by posed by the religious right and mercenary outfits (of which Blackwater is the most dangerous), and have posted several times on this subject.
That the Bush administration not only countenances but abets their activities is nothing short of treason.
I can't quite understand why this is sooo far under the radar. I think it's because there are so many threats to us by Bush, from so many different directions, that it is impossible to focus on any of them. The mind boggles, which might be part of their overall strategy.
What I do know, however, is that we as a nation are in deep, deep trouble. Our Constitution is halfway through the shredder.
If you have any suggestions, I's appreciate hearing them. John.
